Notice to Members regarding Fuel Cost Adjustment

Your March bill will be higher as you will see an increase in the Fuel Cost Adjustment on your statement.

Note: This is a “pass-through” cost billed to us by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Natchez Trace EPA does not keep these funds or add any markup; we simply collect this amount from members and send it directly to TVA to pay for the fuel used to generate your electricity.

How Will This Affect My March Bill?

For the month of March, the fuel rate is moving from a recent average of 2.3¢ per kWh to 3.9¢ per kWh. While rates fluctuate based on market costs, this specific increase will be reflected on your March statement.

Why Is the Cost Increasing in March?

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) manages our region’s power generation. They have informed us that for March, rates will be roughly 35% higher than the three-year average due to:

• Winter Storm Fern: Record-breaking cold in January caused a massive spike in heating demand across the region.

• Fuel Mix: During the storm, TVA relied more heavily on natural gas and coal as hydroelectric (water) power generation was lower than usual.

• Market Prices: The cost of the raw fuel needed to meet that record demand was significantly higher than normal.

Ways to Manage Your Energy Bill

We understand that rate increases are difficult. While we cannot control the fuel costs set by TVA, we are committed to helping you manage your consumption this month:

• Monitor Use: Log into your [Member Portal] to track your daily energy patterns.

• Thermostat Settings: Keep your thermostat at 68°F in winter and 78°F in summer to reduce HVAC strain.
